Year 4 visited Blashford lakes

In September, the children in year 4 visited Blashford lakes as part of our Geography study on 'Rivers'. Children investigated river Geography, undertook fieldwork activities and identified creatures that live in rivers and ponds.

Open Afternoon 1st July 2024

7th June 2024 Chris Connaughton

On Friday 7th June Year Four were really excited to welcome Chris Connaughton to school.  Chris performed the story of Beowulf to the children to launch our English writing unit.  This ancient mythical poem links with our Anglo-Saxon History learning. The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and have now been inspired by Chris to include many of his fantastic vocabulary choices within their own writing.

We were also very pleased to be able to share this event with Year 4 parents who shared some fantastic feedback with us after the performance.

In Year 4 we have recently enjoyed an afternoon exploring the work of Archaeologists.  Professor Emma Jenkins from Bournemouth University visited our school to teach us all about the work of Archaeologists.  Professor Jenkins and her team brought with them a collection of artefacts and objects which the children were able to hold and investigate.

There were also some exciting artefact boxes to explore.  The children were able to use the same tools used by Archaeologists to dig for artefacts   They were shown how these artefacts would be recorded, sorted and catalogued.
