The School Council
Each year the School Council is elected democratically in the first part of the Autumn Term. Children who wish to be on the School Council have the opportunity to set out the reasons why they should be elected to represent their class. Every class elects one representative, 12 in total, and this may be either a boy or girl. Year 5 and 6 councillors may put themselves forward to run for chairperson, supported by a campaign team to persuade people to vote for them. At the end of the week, the whole school community votes anonymously for the candidate they believe should be chair.
Every child has the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account (Article 12)
The School Council meet once a fortnight in the Beehive to discuss suggestions from the school community, share ideas and make decisions. Currently, the School Council are involved in improving the Dragon Area. Design ideas have been carried forward from last term and a fund raising campaign is underway to help purchase a soft surface for the newly acquired boat and many more items for this play area.
