Roles and Responsibilities

It has been a great start to the new school year with many of the Year 6 children taking on extra roles and responsibilities across the school. We are in the process of appointing Prefects, Art Leaders, House Captains, Radio DJs, Sustainability Champions and Office Monitors and we look forward to working alongside them as they support the school within their new roles.

Greek Day

Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fantastic hands-on cooking lesson as part of their Design and Technology topic on Greek food and healthy eating. The classroom was filled with excitement as pupils worked together to prepare a variety of delicious Greek-inspired dishes, including flatbreads, tzatziki, fresh salad and halloumi.

Throughout the lesson, pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and practical cooking skills. They carefully followed recipes, practised safe and hygienic food preparation and explored how different ingredients contribute to a healthy, balanced diet.

It was wonderful to see pupils so engaged and enthusiastic, taking pride in their work and enjoying the opportunity to taste the dishes they had created. The lesson not only developed their cooking skills but also deepened their understanding of nutrition and cultural cuisine.

A truly enjoyable and memorable experience for all!

Geography

Our Geography project this term is focussed on Southampton – Global Connections. During this project, the children will use a range of geographical skills to investigate the key features of Southampton and consider how the physical and human features compare to that of our local town of Ringwood. They will also identify how Southampton functions as a port and why it is so successful, enquiring into the role it plays as part of a national and global picture and looking into the different trade links and the impact a port has on the local area and economy.

Southampton Trip

Year 6 had a fantastic time exploring Southampton on their recent geography and history field trip! Pupils took part in a walking tour around the city, completing a range of engaging tasks along the way. They located key landmarks and historic markers, learnt about significant buildings, and carried out both traffic and building surveys. As part of their fieldwork, they also interviewed members of the public to gather data, which they later analysed back in class.

The highlight of the day was a fascinating boat trip around the dockyards, where pupils discovered how the port operates today and learnt about its rich maritime history. It was a brilliant, hands-on experience that brought their classroom learning to life!
