Portsmouth Trip

Year 5 had an amazing day exploring the history of Portsmouth Historic Dockyards. The children had the opportunity to go aboard HMS Warrior to experience the Victorian life on sea. They interacted with actors who explained to them the Sailor's life and the children even had the chance to get in the hammock to experience sleeping conditions! The children found the difference in living quality between the sailors and the officers interesting. We also were able to go into the Mary Rose Museum which offered an amazing insight into life aboard a Tudor ship. With the 500 year old artefacts, the children were able to use their historian skills to figure out what the life of a Tudor sailor would have been like. The children had a wonderful day and have enriched their learning and understanding.

Wooden Cam Toys

The children in Year 5 enjoyed a practical and creative design and technology project in which they made their own wooden cam toys. They carefully measured, cut and joined the wood, developing their skills in accuracy and safe tool use. Once the mechanisms were complete, the children designed and created decorative elements to bring their toys to life. The project encouraged problem solving, creativity and perseverance, and the finished cam toys were something the children could be proud of.

Autumn Term

Year 5 Residential Trip

Year 5 had a fantastic time on their camping trip to Butchers Coppice. The children slept in bell tents and embraced the outdoor lifestyle with great enthusiasm. Throughout the trip, they took part in a range of exciting activities including rock climbing, the fan descender, archery, and shelter building. One of the highlights was the outdoor cinema experience, where the children enjoyed watching a film under the stars. The trip gave the children the opportunity to try new things, work as a team, and develop their confidence. The children had a brilliant time and made memories that will stay with them for a long time.

Year 5 Bolderwood Trip

Our Year 5 pupils enjoyed a fantastic field trip to Bolderwood in the New Forest as part of their geography learning. During the visit, the children created detailed sketch maps of the area, developing their skills in observation and spatial awareness. They also explored the forest on foot, identifying examples of human impact on the environment — from well-maintained paths and visitor facilities to areas showing signs of erosion and litter. It was a brilliant day of hands-on learning in a beautiful setting!
