History
History Subject Overview
This term we have been exploring the Ancient Maya – a civilisation that the children knew very little about. We have been able to contrast what we have learnt with ancient civilisations studied previously, such as the Ancient Egyptians. We have discovered what an interesting, well-organised and educated people they were, establishing their cities and farms in some of the most difficult terrain of Meso-America. Pupils took on the role of archaeologists, evaluating artefacts and primary sources of evidence. We concluded the unit of work by exploring why so little is known about the Maya and how a combination of events is likely to have seen this civilisation lost from our world today.
