Limitless Learning

D&T

D&T Subject Overview

In D&T this half term, year 5 have been creating Mayan structures with cross curricular links to our history learning.  We discussed how the Mayans lived in a warm and wet climate in Central America which could flood.  They also needed to collect the fresh rainwater for drinking and washing.  Year 5 had to design and build a structure which met 3 criteria; 1) Be able to withstand a flood without damage; 2) Have ventilation for fresh air in a hot climate; and 3) Have a method to collect and store rainwater.  The structures were then tested and evaluated.
