Projects
Egyptian Exhibition
On 31st of March we were delighted to be able to welcome parents and carers in to school to our Egyptian Exhibition where we shared all of our learning linked to our History project about ancient civilisations and the ancient Egyptians. During this term, we have also linked our Art learning and created beautiful and colourful canopic jars inspired by the artist Grayson Perry. In our English lessons, we extended our understanding of time conjunctions and used them when we created Embalmers Handbooks. The children were very keep to share their projects with their adults and there was a wonderful array of different models, posters, presentations and even a full sized sarcophagus complete with mummy!
Art
In Year 3 we have studied the work of the artist L.S. Lowry looking at his pictures of everyday places and people. We explored his use of colour and how he painted the buildings in his work. We then compared this to the artist James Rizzi who uses bright colours in his paintings of buildings in New York. We learnt how he liked to give buildings in his paintings human characteristics. Using paints we explored colour choices and experimented by painting our own pictures of our school building in the style of James Rizzi.
Design and Technology - Desk Tidies
As part of our Design and Technology learning in Year 3, we have been looking at desk tidies. We wanted to design and create our own desk tidies but with a focus on reusing and recycling products. We looked at a range of products, decided who our desk tidy would be for and then worked to create our own desk organisers. We decorated our finished product by covering and painting different materials.
Iron Age
In Year 3 our history project has been focused on the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We have learnt how the earliest settlers transformed their way of life from hunter-gatherers to farmers and we have explored settlements such as Skara Brae to use our interpretive skills to work out what life may have been like at that time. To help us learn and understand about life in the Iron Age in Britain, we were visited by Matt Russell for a very exciting day of hands on history learning. He shared with us many interesting facts about daily life in the Iron Age. Through the handling and exploration of artefacts, we learnt how resourceful these people were. Matt explained how settlements were built on hill forts and how these were made and he shared with us how these people developed weapons and tools from iron to make their everyday life easier and to help them defend their settlements from other tribes.
Art
In Year 3, we have been learning about the artist James Rizzi. We explored using colour and paint to make a bright painting of our school building. We compared James Rizzi's work to that of the artist Lowry.
Design and Technology
As part of our DT learning, we spent some lessons exploring different levers. We then used this learning to help us make a moving Christmas card.
PE
In PE, we have been working in small groups to create routines using different balances and gymnastic shapes. We thought really carefully about how we could travel from one shape to another using the equipment and thinking about how we could mirror others in our groups.
